I
present The Packed Lunch show on Thursdays at mid-day. I moved
from London and the South forty years ago. Moving first to
Sheffield and then to Manchester at the start of the personal
computer stage. I started with a Sinclair and upgraded it
and learned to programme after a fashion. This was the start
of many changes to peoples lives, jobs were lost and new skills
had to be learned.
Manchester was the centre for one of my great interests, the
Industrial Revolution. For many years I was able to follow
the many canals, seek out the old roads and look for the old
factories and housing estates. All very interesting. It gave
me a view of how society should be working and to an extent
brought me into conflict with the rest of society, a proper
odd man out.
For many years I have been concerned that a great percentage
of the people have become disenchanted with the way the country
is run and had opted out. I consider the percentage of people
who feel they need to opt out is a major danger to our countries
future.
It is my considered opinion that the elected representatives
have become isolated from the people and have lost touch with
what needs to be done to build housing estates like Wythenshawe
into a Community.
A local radio station like Wythenshawe FM 97.2 is a superb
platform for drawing the people together, how this is to be
done could be a subject for some of its programmes in the
future. In the meantime we must be in contact with the many
other organisations in Wythenshawe and encourage them to participate
on the radio and advertise what they have to offer.
I met a member of WFM at a meeting and was asked to join up
as a volunteer, which I did, and here we are trying to map
out the future without causing too much chaos.
