The Energy Switch Campaign…..

The Energy Switch Campaign…..
is proving extremely successful, with almost 12,500 signing up for this collaborative energy scheme, which is based on a previous campaign run by Oldham. You can monitor (and sign up yourself!) here:

We know that rising energy prices are an increasing concernMcc master logo CMYK
for residents.
We also know that many people would get a better deal on
their energy by switching providers.
Greater Manchester’s Energy Switching Scheme is being
organised by the ten councils within Greater Manchester
(Manchester, Bury, Oldham, Salford, Stockport, Wigan,
Bolton, Rochdale, Tameside and Trafford). The scheme brings
together a number of people who want to switch providers into
one ‘auction’. Energy providers then bid for their business by
offering the best available prices.
The more people join the collective scheme, the better a deal
everybody gets.
On average we expect residents to save up to £250 a year
by switching energy suppliers through this scheme. The £250
figure is based on previous auctions.
How does the scheme work?
Residents can sign up free and with no obligation to tell us they
are interested in switching suppliers to save money. Businesses
currently on a domestic tariff are also eligible to sign up.
The more people sign up, the better deal we all get.
Anyone can sign up from 2 January to 28 January 2013.
On 29 January iChoosr (the company which has been
selected to facilitate the switching process) will run an auction
asking energy suppliers to bid for the collective business of
everyone who signs up.
After 29 January iChoosr will contact everyone who has signed
up individually with an offer of an energy tariff based on their
usage. This will outline how much you will save by switching to
the winning energy provider.

2012 Christmas Lights Switch On

The 2012 Christmas lights switch on was a great success with over 1000 people in attendance! WFM managed the stage withWythenshawe Christmas Lights 2012 39 ©Matthew Nichol Photography 2012 live artists entertaining the crowd with some amazing voices. Robert Read and Isabel Duncan compéred the event and really got the crowd into a frenzy and warmed up on a cold winter evening. The two were superb and had local links with Robert  a local lad from Wythenshawe who acts and has taught music in a local School and Isabel from her days compéring at the Golden Garter, Wythenshawe’s trendy club in the 60’s and 70’s. The talent on the night was also outstanding with a line up of local Wythenshawe got talent winners in Pam Thompson, Gary Walker and Chelsea Tune who all rocked to unbelievable heights on the night! There was also January from the X factor who did great considering the music wouldn’t play but got everyone upbeat with a great acapella of different songs. The finale on stage was with the Manchester Airport choir and Father Christmas who were absolutely brilliant. The fantastic laser show ended a great night for everyone who attended and i imagine more and more people will be attending over the coming years.

From Monday 22 October, residents, businesses and road users will be able to give their views on the proposals for the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road.

Part of the wider South East Manchester Multi-Modal Strategy (SEMMMS), the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road is a proposed dual carriageway, approximately 10km long linking the A6 at Hazel Grove to the eastern end of the existing A555 at Woodford Road, Bramhall and from the western end of the existing A555 at Wilmslow Road, Handforth to Manchester Airport.

By improving access to south east Manchester and east Cheshire, the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road will benefit communities and the local economy, in particular assisting the potential growth of Manchester Airport and Airport City as well as areas of Stockport, Manchester and Cheshire East.

Once completed, the scheme could deliver substantial benefits to the wider economy, generating additional economic output for the region of up to £2.5 billion, as well as contribute towards the creation of up to 5,000 new jobs due to improved connectivity.

Stockport Council, along with its partners Cheshire East and Manchester City councils, are consulting on the road scheme in two phases. The first phase of consultation, which runs from 22 October 2012 until 25 January 2013, will allow the three councils to ask for views on junction options to help determine a preferred scheme. A second phase will follow in spring 2013 when the three councils will seek views on the preferred scheme, prior to the submission of a planning application in summer 2013.

The three councils are committed to ensuring that anyone with an interest in the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road has an opportunity to comment on the proposals.

There are a number of ways to find out more about how the scheme will affect the local area and to respond to the consultation:

A stray cat who set up home at  Manchester Airport, stole hearts around the world, and became a celebrity with thousands of followers on Facebook, is enjoying a well-deserved retirement in a comfortable new home at a secret location in South Manchester.

Olly the cat isn’t as young as she used to be so Airport bosses decided it was time for the much-loved moggie to swap her outdoor life, stationed outside their headquarters at Olympic House, for a cosy home of her own.

The purrrfect feline now has an amazing 2,544 followers on Facebook and has even had a BMI plane named after her called Olly Cat Baby.
