GREAT EXPECTATIONS – ROYAL VISIT TO WYTHENSHAWE

Kate Middleton

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton – then expecting her first child – got a warm welcome when she visited Wythenshawe in April this year.

There were comparisons to Princess Diana as well-wishers gathered outside the gates of The Willows Primary School in Woodhouse Park, where the Duchess was visiting  to launch the counselling charity Place2Be.

Fans and well-wishers were treated to a first glimpse of a ‘‘baby bump’’ as the glamorous Ducess arrived in a dress said to be worth £1,500.

While Kate Middleton spent nearly two hours inside, speaking to children at the Tayfield Road school, parents and other onlookers were kept outside the school gates. They lined the school fence, struggling to get a glimpse of the Duchess through a row of parked cars.

This sparked grumbles from some onlookers but the overwhelming feeling WFM took away from the day was of having unveiled a strong strain of royalism in Wythenshawe – with the young royals being particularly popular.

You can hear what local people had to say about the visit of the Duchess of Cambridge to Wythenshawe when we give you the chance to listen again to

two WFM broadcasts capturing the excitement of the occasion.

They will be played out at the following times:
