Northenden Neighbourhood Forum will hold its first annual general meeting at St Wilfrid’s Primary School in Patterdale Road, Northenden, starting at 7.30pm on Thursday May 8 and everyone who lives or works in Northenden is invited to attend and to help set the agenda for the future of the area.
Local people campaigned for the NNF to be set up under the Localism Act 2011 and it got the go-ahead in February this year.
The organisers say they are motivated by the principle that information empowers the community and that if the Northenden Neighbourhood Forum is able to attract a large membership it will increase the mandate it has to shape policy in the area.
What is Northenden Neighbourhood Forum (NNF)?
Forums have community rights set out in the Localism Act of 2011 and are set up with
financing from central government. They have a designated area and constitution. They aim to promote and contribute to improving the social, economic and environmental well-being of the area and to provide a focus for community identity, cooperation and action.
According to the organisers, Northenden Neighbourhood Forum is a non-political community organisation set up by Northenden residents for Northenden residents. It gives local people more influence over planning issues and developments in Northenden. NNF is the first legally-approved Neighbourhood Forum in Greater Manchester.
NNF Meetings will take place monthly but there is no obligation to attend. If you have not already joined, you can sign a joining form at the reception of St. Wilfrid’s School; Taylors Newsagent; Mama Bears Cafe; Tiny Tots + Teapots Craft Cafe; KidsStart Nursery, Longley Lane; or email the membership secretary on email@example.com.
