The SENsitive Group

Appearing on the Buzz Show with Colin and Chris 19th November  2020

Disability Act
2020 marked the 50-year anniversary of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act, the first disability rights legislation in the world.   The late Lord Alf Morris, the Wythenshawe MP at the time, pioneered this landmark legislation, which transformed the lives of millions of people worldwide. It also provided the foundations for the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Equality Act 2010.

While the coronavirus outbreak curtailed planned events to mark this significant milestone for disability rights, these difficult times have also brought into sharp focus the dignity and care of the most vulnerable people in today’s society.

SENsitive Group
At the same time, a group of Wythenshawe parents hope to build upon Lord Alf Morris’s legacy, by campaigning to improve the life chances of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The parents are members of the SENsitive Group, formed by Caritas in October 2019. Before the coronavirus outbreak, the group met weekly at St Aidan’s Centre, Wythenshawe, to share their hopes and struggles, as well as act upon issues of concern.

During lockdown, members have maintained weekly connections through Zoom meetings and a WhatsApp group.

This is just to clarify how to connect with the group and when it meets;

Tuesdays 10am  – 11.30am – alternating between gathering at the Centre one week and a Zoom meeting the next.
Connect with group on Facebook – SENsitive (To be spelt in this way) – connections to Zoom will be on here
